The Emmaus College orchestra have been together for about 2 years now with students and teachers across the college playing beautiful classical instruments that make a harmonious sound.

Conducted by an experienced musician and music teacher, by the name of Mrs. Howard, the Emmaus College orchestra work hard once every school week on Thursdays practising arrangments such as ‘Mission Impossible’ and ‘The Pirates of the Carrabean’.

The orchestra is made up of a wide-spread variety of classical instruments. It consists of percussion, bass, saxophones, clarinets, an oboe, violins, a cello, trombones, a trumpet, flutes, a piccolo, a piano, and a bass clarinet.

Pieces come together very well with the entire orchestra cooperating in music and in ‘team spirit’. The orchestra is almost like a family of band members who all share the gift of music with each other and with the audience. Audiences are wowed by the amount of talent that comes out of the young students who play their instruments in the College orchestra.

The Emmaus College orchestra is an amazing work-in-progress. The young students and teachers practise hard, to produce lovely performances that take breaths away. Hopefully the orchestra continue to become more and more astonishing with every performance that they make. Good luck to the orchestra.

Every Thursday afternoon from 3pm-4pm the sounds of flutes, violins, clarinets, oboes, saxophones, drums, guitars, a piano and a euphonium emanate from the Emmaus College music room.

The orchestra was formed during the middle of term three, 2007. It consists of students from years 5-12 who have been learning their instrument for at least 12 months.

This is the Emmaus Orchestra when they were busily preparing for their very first performance at the Emmaus College Sunset Fair in 2007. For this performance they played the Australian National Anthem and the William Tell Overture. Well done orchestra!

There are many helpers both behind the scenes and within the orchestra. I would like to thank Mrs Howard the conductor, Mr Bergman on flute, Mrs Pike on clarinet, Mrs Robinson on piano and her son Josh on euphonium. (Both pictured below)

It is fantastic to see these people indulging in the love of music each Thursday afternoon. The students love orchestra because it allows them to work together as part of a team and become more confident on their instrument. They also enjoy hearing everyone play at the same time. Keep up the great work orchestra!!

Mrs Robinson turned our guitar boys into percussionists! Smile fellas! I know it's not easy counting 32 bars of rests!

Thanks goes to Josh who helped Zane belt out a tune on the 'bone.

Overall the day was a huge success! The sounds the orchestra produced were just magical and I am very proud of the effort every single member put into preparing for the afternoon concert. Congratulations orchestra, you are doing a fantastic job! I think the best part of the day was pizza and lollies! A big thank you to Fiona and Michael (Christine's parents) who provided these marvellous musicians with chocolates at the end of the day! I would also like to thank Mrs Howard the conductor, Mr Bergman on flute, Mrs Robinson on piano, Mrs Pike on clarinet, Nicole Murphy on cello and Josh Parker or trombone. Without these wonderful people the orchestra would not be able to function! They give of their time to train up our young musicians and make sure everything is running smoothly. Thanks heaps!
